KAMPALA: Hon. Justice Dr Henry Peter Adonyo formally handed over office of Executive Director of the Judicial Training Institute to Hon. Lady Justice Damalie N. Lwanga.
The Chairperson of JTI Governing Council, Hon. Lady Justice Stella Arach; Ms Rachael Odoi and Ms Norah Winyi Matovu, who are both members of the Governing Council as well as staff from JTI, witnessed the handover.
Hon. Justice Adonyo, who was at the helm of JTI for three years, said a lot of progress had been made at the Institute since 2016 when he assumed office. "From January,2016 to August 2019, the period was characterized by great challenges in spite of these, great progress has been made."
Among the challenges highlighted were inadequate resources for activities and the frequent transfers of staff. He called upon the new ED to work with the Top Management to address these issues and enable efficiency at the Institute.
He also commended the JTI staff for making his work at the Institute easier and encouraged them to do the same for the incoming ED.
The new ED thanked her predecessor for a job well done. She also called for support and guidance of Judiciary’s Top Management and promised to work with the Governing Council to ensure smooth operations at the Institute.
"To the team at JTI, I count on your support, commitment and team work which will help us realize the objectives for which the Institute exists," she said.
Hon. Lady Justice Arach-Amoko extended her gratitude to Hon. Justice Dr Adonyo for his selfless services to the JTI. "You kept JTI afloat even when you had minimal resources to do so and also used your contacts and ingenuity to attract funding for training activities from various organizations," she said.
Hon.Lady Justice Arach further urged the outgoing ED to share information with the incoming ED to help ease her work. "I am sure you would not wish to seethe good work come to a standstill...JTI will continue to tap from your vast knowledge and experience in other capacities."
She equally pledged full support and guidance from the Governing Council and Top Management.
Notably present was the Chief Registrar, HW Esta Nambayo, Uganda Law Society President,Mr Simon Peter Kinobe and Registrar in charge of Research and Training.
